Breastfeeding is a valuable gift

Breastfeeding is a source of security and warmth for your baby and makes your life easier as you will not need any bottles, brushes, milk powder, sterilisers etc. Breast milk is fresh and sterile, is always the right temperature and provides your baby with the perfect balance of  nutrients. What's more, it doesn't cost anything and is there when you need it. The latest findings have shown that breastfeeding also has a positive effect on your child's intelligence, as sucking stimulates the functioning of nerves and muscles. It also protects your little darling against infections. Children who are breastfed suffer less from diarrhoea, constipation and wind. In the first days after the birth, your baby will receive the colostrum, which contains large quantities of nutrients, minerals and vitamins as well as important antibodies.

Breast milk – the perfect food for your baby

Breast milk contains 88% water. It therefore controls both the fluid and nutrient intake of your baby. It contains large quantities of essential nutrients such as fat, carbohydrates, proteins, non-protein nitrates, trace elements and cells. In all, several hundred different constituent elements have beein identified.

The meaning of breastfeeding

Breastfeeding means more than just feeding your baby. It also has an important meaning for the mother, and promotes the intimate relationship between mother and child. For its healthy psychological development a baby needs a great deal of physical and eye contact and a person the baby can relate to on a regular basis. This happens almost automatically during breastfeeding, and even first-time mothers become more quickly accustomed to their new role as a result. Breastfeeding means a healthier baby It has also been proven that babies who have been breastfed require less  medical care. Your child is given a higher level of natural immunity to infection in the very early weeks of life.

Advantages for the mother

Breastfeeding hormones help prevent post-natal infections, promote the contraction of the womb and lower the risk of haemorrhages after birth. They also normally delay the resumption of the menstrual cycle, which many mothers regard as a great  advantage. The additional calorie consumption by your baby during breastfeeding also means that in time, and with healthy eating, the pounds will melt away.
