Plus Size Bra

While Instagram influencers and some clothing companies would lead you to believe otherwise, women come in all sizes. This can make shopping difficult, since we all have different bodies with varied proportions and shapes. When shopping for large cup size bras, you want to make sure you find one that fits perfectly, provides support, and makes you feel confident and comfortable. This guide will show you how!

Did you know that most women are wearing the wrong bra sizes? It’s especially hard for plus-size women to find the right fit. Thankfully, we’re experts on the subject and have put together the following tips to help you find the perfect bra from our collection of large cup size bras for athletes, mothers, and all women in general.

Start by Measuring Yourself

This may sound obvious but many women measure themselves incorrectly without even knowing it! If you can’t get a professional fitting in a retail store, you can do it at home if you have measuring tape. This makes it easier to shop online but keep in mind that measuring is only a starting point to find your right size, not an accurate science.

First, figure out your band size. Put on a  bra without padding and measure around the smallest part of your ribcage. This is right under your breasts. Keep the tape parallel to the floor. Round up 1-2 inches to the next even number.

The next step is to measure around the fullest part of your bust. Wrap the measuring tape around your chest, usually around where your nipple is.

Subtract the band size measurement from the number you got from the fullest part of your bust. The difference between those two numbers will determine your cup size. Check out our bra size calculator if you need a more specific measurement guide for our collection.

The Right Fit

It’s not only the measurements when it comes to finding the right bra. Bras come in a variety of styles, materials, and shapes — and not all will fit your specific body type. And that’s okay! Try on your bra right away to see if it feels comfortable and fits right.

You should be able to slide two fingers under the band. If you can’t, the bra is too tight. The center panel at the front of the bra should be flat against your breastbone. The cups may be too small if that isn’t the case. Now, check out your breasts. Are they spilling over the top? Is there extra space between the bra and your chest? Your breasts should be positioned approximately midway between your shoulder and elbow.

The Correct Support

A really common mistake is getting a bra that fits too loosely because we worry about the strap being too tight on our shoulders. But a loose bra will create discomfort in your shoulders or back, especially if you have a larger chest. That’s because it’s not supportive enough to hold up your breasts, allowing the weight of your chest to pull the bra downward. If your bra is higher in the back than in the front, you need a tighter band. If the band is digging in or rolling up, you may need to find a bra strap that’s longer or wider.

At Anita, we create straps especially made for women with large cup size bras. A lot of our bra straps are wider and padded, making them more comfortable while still offering incredible support for all bra sizes. This makes it easier to find your real cup size.

The Right Style

We have large cup size bras in a variety of styles depending on what you’re looking for. There is lingerie if you want something lacier and sexier. There’s also sports bras for working out and maternity bras for mothers. Within each category there’s also multiple types of bras, including soft and underwire, as well as t-shirt bras and demi cups.

Wireless – These bras are comfortable while also offering support. They often make your breasts look natural.

Underwire – This style is often more supportive, especially if you have larger breasts. They provide more shape and lift than wireless bras.

Full coverage – This type of bra is great for women that are looking for large cup size bras. These provide a lot of comfort thanks to their full support as well as their soft material.

Front close – Some bras have hooks or zippers that allow you to close them in the front. This is easier for women that don’t have full mobility.

T-shirt – These bras are all about everyday comfort. They have seamless cups and don’t show any lines underneath your form fitting top or t-shirt.

Sport – These bras are for active women in motion! Whether you are doing yoga or running a marathon, sports bras will keep your breasts in place and offer support and breathability allowing you to feel confident and push your personal limits.

Take Care of Your Bra Once You Find the One For You

To keep your bra fitting for longer, you need to follow a couple basic care rules:

  • Wash them by hand whenever possible and then lay them flat to dry. If you machine wash them, use a delicate cycle and place your bra in a mesh lingerie bag. Never place your bra in the dryer!
  • Don’t fold your bras when you put them away. This could distort the cup shape over time. Generally, you want to always store your bras flat.
